My new office-mate has finally returned from a long vacation after 3 1/2 weeks. I’d never actually met him before; he’d been on vacation the entire time I’ve been working at my new job.
His absence let me sort of create a faux coworker in my mind from the clues I’d picked up from everyone else. Reality finally walked in the door yesterday and it was almost like looking in a mirror.
He’s from California, picked up German over here, studied social science at Berkeley, graduated in ’99 and grew up in Grass Valley.
Things I’ve said to my twin so far:
“Tell me you ate tons of mexican food while you were there.”
“Grass Valley is where we would ‘go to town’ when we got paroled from summer camp.”
“Funnily enough I had my OWN visual thesaurus subscription!”
“Of course your mother had a really complicated apple corer, she bought it at Apple Hill!”
“Did you ever go into that nasty bar called Mannies?”
“Yes in California, it’s a DRY heat!”
“No I do not like the Oxford comma!”
“I lived around the corner from Godzilla Sushi it’s my FAVORITE!”
I think we’ll get along just fine. I am really curious about my boss and his fondness for hiring clones though.
